IN
DECEMBER 2011, AKS MASSAGE SCHOOL, INC.
CLOSED ITS SCHOOL FACILITY LOCATED IN HERNDON,
VIRGINIA
AKS
Massage School no longer holds a certificate
to operate by the State
Council of Higher Education for Virginia
(SCHEV)
Student enrollment has been
declining for the past several years.
This
appears to be a result of several factors:
-
The economy is hurting many businesses
across the country and, in turn, our work
force. This limits the use of personal,
discretionary funds, which are required
to embark on new careers and professions,
such as massage therapy;
- Many
large, corporate-owned schools have moved
into the area over the past 10 years,
including those that offer massage therapy
coursework. The few private schools in
the area must now compete with these larger
entities; and,
- The
need for colleges and universities to
broaden their focus and boost enrollment
in order to meet the needs of our community.
This has, in turn, prompted our educational
centers to offer more vocational skills
and professional programs, including massage
therapy and bodywork curriculums.
Simply
put, competing in this arena as a private
school is very challenging.
To
all of our past students, alumni, instructors,
supporters, friends, and family:
THANK
YOU for the privilege of working
with you and serving you in this fashion
for the past 20 years!

IF
THERE IS INTEREST, WE MAY STILL BE ABLE
TO SERVE YOU
- AKS
intellectual property, real estate, and
most of our instructors and staff are
still available;
- Several
AKS graduates have great interest to re-open
the school if enough candidates express
sincere interest and make financial commitments;
- Many
of our instructors are independent Approved
Providers with the National Certification
Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
(NCBTMB) and, therefore, will continue
to offer continuing education classes
to health care professionals; and,
- AKS
faculty and graduates will continue to
stay active in the community and keep
our hands in the local, state, and national
legislation that regulates our profession
and industry.

PLEASE
RETURN ANY MATERIALS THAT YOU HAVE BORROWED
Please
contact Katharine using the email address
or phone number shown on this site!
WE
WOULD LIKE TO COLLECT AND INVENTORY OUR
SCHOOL EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES.
Over
the years, AKS has freely lent much of its
equipment and reference materials to students,
graduates, and the community. Similarly,
many graduates and patrons have lent and
donated equipment to the school.
Much
of this property has NEVER been returned!
If
you KNOW someone that may have borrowed
equipment or materials, and may not have
returned it for some reason, then please
let us know so that we may contact them.
AKS,
as well as it friends and supporters, would
deeply appreciate getting some of their
equipment and supplies back! This includes
ME, the school webmaster. Among other items,
I'm looking for a burgundy, Oakworks massage
chair that I lent to the school, is valued
at over $400, was lent or borrowed, and
can no longer be found.
THANK
YOU AGAIN! |
