PROFESSIONAL MASSAGE
Certified Massage Therapists that hold their practice at the AKS Massage Clinic offer professional massage, bodywork, and other health and fitness services in a professional, non-sexual setting. You may wish to receive a professional massage for a variety of reasons:

  • Relaxation and stress reduction
  • Performance improvement
  • Pain management
  • Injury prevention
  • General fitness
Massage is a recognized, effective treatment for many health conditions. Muscle tension and soft tissue disorders place strains on the body, reduce healthy circulation, and disrupt normal nerve function.

ADVANCED TECHNIQUES

In addition to massage offered by our students, the AKS Massage Clinic CMTs offer many advanced modalities, including, but not limited to:

  • Neuromuscular Therapy
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Connective Tissue Massage
  • Therapeutic Stretching
  • Sports Massage
  • Myofascial Release
  • Bowen Therapy
  • Aromatherapy
  • Acupressure
  • Shiatsu

Please discuss the goals of your session with your therapist to better understand these alternative modalities and to help determine the best combination of techniques to meet your objectives.

ETHICS
Our therapists meet the highest level of professional competency and standards. All of our professional therapists have:

  • Obtained a Fairfax County Massage Permit
  • Obtained a CMT license from the Virginia Board of Nursing
  • Passed the National Certification Exam administered by NCBTMB
  • Completed at least 600 hours of massage training at a registered trade school
  • Attendeded advanced training and Continuing Education classes
  • Joined a professional association for Massage Therapists (e.g., AMTA)
  • Maintained certification in First Aid and CPR training

At AKS, we care so much about competency and ethics -- personal ethics, business ethics, and professional ethics. It is important that we never misrepresent ourselves and our training, and that we educate potential clients about the selection of an educated, permitted, licensed, and certified Massage Therapist.

In Fairfax County, those who misrepresent themselves are subject to being reported to the Department of Telecommunications and Consumer Services.

YOUR SESSION

You will receive the type of massage or bodywork mutually agreed upon by you and your Massage Therapist. Session lengths vary depending on the goals of the massage and the amount of time that you reserve for your appointment. For a 1-hour massage, please allow a total time of about 75 to 90 minutes for your visit.

During your first visit, you will be asked to complete a brief Health Intake form, review the AKS Massage Clinic policies, and, if needed, discuss payment policies with your therapist. Your therapist may also want to hold a brief interview and discuss session options that best meet your goals.

If your session requires you to disrobe, then your Massage Therapist will leave the room while you undress and lie on the table, underneath a drape (top sheet). The therapist uses effective draping techniques to ensure your comfort.

After your session, the your therapist will leave the room so that you may redress if needed.
