AKS offers the clinic facility and services to Certified Massage Therapists on a space-available basis. Professionals may also use the clinic, or classroom, space for providing other services, such as continuing education, meetings and workshops.

Independent therapists may use the AKS Massage Clinic on a 70/30 commission-basis. Alternatively, qualified CMTs who prepay for clinic sessions will receive a discounted rate, as well as additional clinic services and school discounts.

Commission-Basis - CMTs use the space, as needed, on a 70/30 commission basis. In other words, you keep 70% your client fee, regardless of what your charge your clients. Note that most facilities keep 40%, 50%, or even 60% of your income. AKS offers this reduced rate to help new therapists start their practices and to help existing therapists grow their practices.

Prepaid Usage - CMTs prepay to use the clinic by purchasing blocks of five (5) clinic sessions.

• Each block of five (5) sessions costs $75.
• Each session consists of 1.5 hours in a private or semiprivate room, depending on available clinic space.

Minimum purchase for prepaid services: $75 for 7.5 hours - $10 per hour.

One-time Application Fee - $100

To use use the Clinic Services, CMTs must first interview with the AKS Massage School owner (or designated AKS staff member) and provide the following:

• Virginia State License - Certified Massage Therapist
• Fairfax County Massage Therapist Permit
• Check payable to: AKS Massage School
  • $35 - Processing Fee (non-refundable)
  • $65 - Security Deposit (refundable)

The AKS Massage Clinic contains 4 bodywork rooms and, typically 5 massage tables, plus common facilities as follows:

• Private rooms. Three (3) private rooms for individual bodywork sessions. Two (2) of these rooms contain windows for natural lighting.
• Common Area. One (1) larger room with movable partitions that may be used for up to two (2) semiprivate bodywork sessions. Without partitions, the room can be used for small classes/training. It also accommodates up to four (4) tables for group sessions, in addition to the tables in the private rooms.
• Office/kitchen area. Office equipment includes a desk, chairs, and phone lines (clinic and school). Kitchen facilities include a kitchen sink, utility sink, small refrigerator, microwave, cabinets, and lockers.
• Bathroom. The handicapped-equipped bathroom contains a toilet, sink, and furnishings.
  

Each of the four (4) bodywork rooms also contain the following equipment and supplies, allowing you to practice without purchasing your own table.

• Massage Tables. Private Rooms 1 and 3 contain folding, portable massage tables. Private Room 2 contains an electric lift massage table. Semiprivate Room 4 contains two (2) folding, portable massage tables. Additional tables, and seated massage chairs, can be rented from AKS Massage School if needed.
• Face Cradles - One per table.
• Bolsters - One per table.
• Blankets - One per room.
• CD Players - One per room.
• Halogen lamps - One per room (in addition to fluorescent overhead fixtures).

Therapists who prepay (i.e., minimum of 7.5 hours) to use the AKS Massage Clinic receive the following additional services and school discounts:

Advertising - AKS will help you to promote your practice as follows:

• Clinic Announcements. You may leave your personal business cards, brochures, and flyers in the clinic for others to see.
• Brochures. We provide 6-panel informational brochures that you may copy and distribute throughout the area. Feel free to personalize them with your own contact information.
• Flyers. AKS occasionally distributes promotional flyers about the clinic at local events.
• Website. We will add your name and contact information, as well as the modalities you practice, to this website.
  

  You will also be working with a group of colleagues that can help you to start your business or build your practice, as well as network throughout local business community.

Educational Discounts - AKS Massage School will offer the following educational opportunities at reduced rates. Note that space may be limited during a class. For Exposure Series sessions, AKS Students will be given first priority. For Continuing Education, prepaid CMTs will given priority.

Product Discounts - You may take advantage of AKS discounts on products and supplies purchased through the school.

Clinic Key - Therapists who prepay will generally receive a key to the AKS Massage Clinic. Otherwise, you must make arrangements with the AKS staff to access the space.

On-Call List - As a prepaid CMT, you may choose to have your name added to our Student Clinic on-call list. When a student needs a client, you may be called for a free massage. If a client needs a therapist when a student is not available, you may be called to take the appointment. In this case, you will receive the client fee ($30 - $40), and any tip, rather than the school and student, respectively.

Certified Massage Therapist responsibilities include:

• Obtain required certifications, licenses, and permits to practice massage
• Schedule rooms/tables using the AKS Online Scheduling System
• Provide your own linens and supplies, such as lotion and face cradle covers
• Have your clients sign an AKS Massage "Clinic Client Waiver" form
• Clean up after each session

The AKS Massage Clinic represents shared space. Consequently, therapists schedule rooms on a First-Come-First-Served basis.

In addition to these basic responsibilities, all therapists must follow any published AKS policies and procedures. Note that we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone without cause.
